Brief History

Sheikh Hassan ibn Muthlih Jamkarani reports as follows:

On the eve of Tuesday, 17th of Ramdan, 373 A.H. while I was asleep at home, a group of people came to my house awakened me and said, "Get up and come to the presence of your Imam al-Mahdi(May God hasten his reappearance), for he wants you".

They accompanied me and took me to a place, where the present Mosque of Jamkaran is located. Noting well, I saw a bed, furnished with a nice carpet, on which a young man - emingly in his thirties was leaning back on a pillow, and an old man was sitting near him. The old man, who was the prophet khidr told me to sit down, and so did I.

Imam Mahdi called me by my name and made such a statement:

"Go to Hassan ibn Muthleh, who cultivates this piece of land, and tell him that this field is noble, and God, the Exalted  has selected this out of other areas, so he must no longer cultivate it.

Then I said, "my master I should have some proof for this, otherwise people will not believe me".

The Imam continued: "You will go and do the mission; we shall provide some proof for it. Also, go to Sayyed abul Hassan - one of the ulema of Qum - tell him and summon him to take the profit he has earned over several years out of the field, and to build a mosque over here [in this piece of land].

Imam al-Mahdi Prayer

Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) said:

"Say to people to pay homage to this place - that is, the Mosque - and respect it, and say a four - rak'at prayer. "it is as follows: The first two - rak'at prayer is for the respect and benediction of the Mosque.

In it, in each rak'at, one recites the sura of Hamd once and the sura of Ikhlas seven times. In ruku' and sujud the dhikr, that is invocation, should be said seven times.

The next two rak'at prayers is such that in reciting the sura of Hamd, The verse Iyyaka nabudu wa Iyyaka nasta'in' Thee (alone) worhsip we and of Thee (only) we seek help should be repeated a hundred times. Then the remainder of the sura is recited, followed by the sura al-Ikhlas recited once. In ruku' the dhikr subhana rabbi    al-azimi wa bihamdih and in sujud the dhikr subhana rabbial - 'ala wa bihamdih one repeated seven times.

After finishing the prayer, one says la ilaha illallah once, to be followed by the lady hadrat Fatimat - uz Zahra' tasbihat - glorification of the Almighty - that is Allahu Akbar thirty - four times, both Al-Hamdou lillah and subhan Allah thirty - three times. Finally, performing the sujud, one says the salawat - Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ali Muhammad a hundred times. After giving the above instruction for this ritual, the Imam (peace be upon him) went on and said:

"One who says this two - rak'at prayer in this place, it [his act] is tantamount to saying it in the Ka'bah.

Al-Hassan started going off, the Imam (May God hasten his reappearanc) called him again and remarked: "There is a goat in the cattle of Ja'far of Kashan. Purchase and take it overhere. Slaughter it and give its meat to the sick. One who eats the meat, God, the Exalted will heal him".

Hassan ibn Muthlih continued that he then got back home, and spent the rest of time pondering over all the events took place the night before. The next morning, after saying the morning prayer, he reported all he witnessed the night before to Ali al-Munthir. Then they together went to the same place. There they found some pieces of iron chain which marked the area of the Mosque.

After that, Hassan took a trip to Qum to meet sayyed Abul Hassan ibn Reda. At the gate the seyyd's servent stepped forward and inquired whether he was coming from Jamkaran. The answer was positive. Then the servant remarked that, "The sayyed has been waiting for you since the dawn". They then went in. The Sayyed warmly and cordially welcomed him and said that in the previous night he had a true dream in which some one heralded to him that Hassan ibn Muthleh would come to him from Jamkaran. It went on, "Accept whatever he says and account on him, for his words are ours, and never deny him. "Then the Sayyed explained that he had since been waiting for him. After that Hassan ibn Muthleh reported the whole story, from A to Z.

Following this, the sayyed got his horses ready to ride on, and they togther travelled back to Jamkaran. Thereby they saw the cattle of Ja'far of Kashan in which a goat was following the cattle. when they landed down, the goat ran toward Hassan ibn Muthleh. Ja' far swore that he had not seen it before. They took it to the city where Mosque is now situated - and slaughtered it. All the sick people who ate of its meat got well; this was by the grace of the Almighty and of Imam al-Mahdi.

After that, Sayyed Abul Hassan ibn Rida summoned Hassan ibn Muthleh and took the profits made out of the land, constructed the Mosque, covering its roof with pieces of wood. He then took the chains and nails back to Qum and deposited them at home. when a sick person touched it, he would get well by the grace of God. After the Sayyed passed away, the chains and nails got disappeared. Nobody saw them no longer.(Adapted from H. Tabarsi Turi, Najm ul - thaqib, pp. 383 – 88)

Imam al-Mahdi, the Imam of the age told his followers:

"We never desist from helping and patroning you, nor do we forget you. Otherwise, the difficulties would rush on to you, and your enemies would destroy you. Here, be pious, and assist us in saving you from the calamities around you".
